| The eagle kite up for parade and to fly high |
Celebrating Independence day is like learning to fly without wings. Talk about kiteflying - a tradition that is threatened to disappear. On this eventful day, the participants vowed not only to save but resurrect the practice passionately. The parade symbolized the proud sentiment of Pasiguenos to keep kiteflying a part of its consciousness.
The Rizal High School Open Ground after all has very spacious open air track and field oval ground ideal for the Kiteflying Competition particpated by around 100 enthusiasts, mostly families for another take of bonding with the simple joys of kiteflying. Some street children were also invited to give them a chance for a hands-on experience of a tradition that they may never experience in the lifetime.
And like we prayed for, skies cleared out sparing us from earlier bad forecast. Kite enthusiasts, participants with the sponsors assembled early in the morning to march altogether and smoothly paraded around Pasig thoroughfares of Caniogan to flaunt the array of customized native kites. The kite competition followed immediately after the workshop. The awarding ceremony of winners highlighted the event in the homestretch.

Together with Jollibee, Star Paper; UKDermPharma, and Regent Foods, the event was made possible. Star Paper, the maker of popular Mongol pencil launched the Mongol crayons and campaigned Kris Aquino's limited edition I Am Ninoy pencil during the whole period of event. The Jollibee mascot also appeared to the delight of the younger participants flying a Jollibee kite in promoting its Jollibee Kids Club. The event came out in print via Philippine Daily Inquirer's Metro Section for the Independence observance.
To impart the spirit of keeping the hopes alive to preserve this tradition was what truly this event signified. Kiteflying after all is an old Filipino play embedded in our culture that this event only meant to save it from the verge of extinction.
