n commemoration of
World AIDS Day, an Art Exhibit titled “One-Eyed Women” featuring the works of
New York-based artist VIRRCO aka Rommel Rico will premier on Dec 4 up to Dec 18
at METLive Atrium corner Macapagal and
EDSA in collaboration with Duyan Foundation‘s Project Red Ribbon.
A tribute to the
hardship of Filipina women is the main theme of the art pieces that will be
exhibited and a sort of homecoming for New York-based Rommel Rico whose passion
for painting started after exposure to the art galleries of New York.
In a zoom press
conference last Nov 27, he shared that his passion stemmed from his awakening
from his story of survival ad struggle starting as an OFW working in New York
to become a part of a big pharmaceutical company.
Once with a one-eyed
career path as a Nursing practitioner, Rommel shifted his career path to
creatives and eventually found his niche in the art of painting. New York, a
melting pot in the art scene provided him the exposure and the landscape to
thrive as an artist after his work gained notice after a successful solo
exhibit and having his paintings adapted as wearable art for clothing, etc.
Combining art and
advocacy is something worth looking forward to in this art exhibit as his work
of art depicts the Filipina women’s strength, determination, fun-loving,
family-oriented, and resiliency, those attributes capitalized that are very
relevant in the caring and deserving support of children suffering from AIDS.
This meaningful
endeavor is very gratifying to note to support both a noble cause, a Filipino
spirit, and artistry.
Art enthusiasts and
advocacy supporters are encouraged to attend the opening program to take place
starting at 3 pm on December 4 at METLive Atrium corner Macapagal and EDSA as a way
to reactivate and propagate art and foster awakening to help the less fortunate
children with AIDS. For more upcoming art exhibits of VIRRCO, check out his
